What is Plasma TV?
We can go back almost forty years to the conception of plasma
television but technology wasn't advanced enough to bring
it to market until late 1999. Now bulk manufacturing and high
demand has enabled us to buy good quality high street brands
at very competitive prices.
Digital television is in almost every home in the UK by way
of decoders and set-top boxes to enable our televisions to
show programs and films made for digital television. As prices
crash and cheaper plasma TV's come onto the market, we can
buy HDTV, DTV, DVD-Video, digital satellite broadcasts and
computer video as well as Plasma TV sets.
If you are familiar with your computer screen resolution,
you will understand better that plasma are capable of displaying
full HDTV and DTV signals as well as XGA, SVGA and VGA signals
from a computer. For example, a plasma display with a 1024
x 1024 pixel resolution can display images from 1080i and
720p HDTV resolution, as well as 480i and 480p HD signals.
Say goodbye to those lines on the television, pixels are
in, what is more each end every pixel cell has its own transistor
electrode to ensure high resolution viewing. What if you are
viewing low-resolution video signal? Those clever plasma techies
have developed a built-in line doubling system to improve
such low-res quality.
Colour saturation is superb, the better quality plasma TVs
are capable of displaying 16.77 million colours. Not to be
confused with 16:9 aspect ratio which is the wide screen dimension
(width and Height).
Unlike old-fashioned television screens that have a curvature,
plasma TV's are flat and are easier to view at varying angles.
If you see the word 'plexiglas' it means it has an antiglare
element.
If you have purchased a new TV (not plasma) recently, you
would note that they don't get any smaller or lighter despite
modern electronics. Plasma is the exception to the rule; a
42-inch screen is only 3.5 inches in depth.
